As I was driving home the other day, there was a dog on the side of my lane, about to get hit by all the people driving way to fast to get home quickly. I had to stop so I wouldn't hit the little guy, and I jumped out of the car to see if I could catch the dog and at least get him to safety. As soon as I got a little bit closer to him, I could tell this was just a puppy! He came up to me and walked with me a little but I finally had to pick him up to put him in my car. I pulled over in a little parking lot to check him out. He had a collar but no tags.
I drove around a little to see if anyone was looking for him or if there were any "Lost Dog" flyers posted. Didn't see anyone or any posters, so I called my mom to give her a heads up that I would have a puppy with me. She was not that happy ... we currently have 3 dogs. Technically, only 1 belongs to us ... Zoey is a mutt that showed up on our door step one day and well, no one ever came looking for her or answered the numerous flyers and ads about a found dog. Sunny is a golden retriever that we've been taking care of for friends. She just turned 11 and because of her surgeries and licking issues, she's doing well here where someone is at home most of the time. Linus is a beautiful greyhound and only stays with us when his owner is out of town. She is currently serving in Iraq, so he's been staying with us until she gets back.
So, anyway, here I show up with this poor little puppy that seems to have been through a lot. The pack was happy to let him in and so this is where my story begins. The puppy is a pit bull. I've met, and seen on tv, very happy and well behaved pit bulls. But, because of the bad people in this world, pit bulls have a bad rep and are sought after as attack dogs and trained to be vicious. I think most people have heard of the horrible illegal dogfights. It is unclear at the time I am typing this, if this will become his forever home, but I want to do everything I can to make this pit bull yet another example that they are good, loving and loyal family dogs.
